I am not sure what I am going to write in this post. My FB friend Nishant is not too happy with the ban on the song ” Tu nangi achchhi dikhti hai” from the genius Dibakar Banerji’s latest flick ” Love Sex aur Dhokha”.
My friend even sent me song ‘Nude’ from his favorite band ” Radiohead”. He gives this argument that Ketan Mehta ‘s masterpiece on the life of great painter Raja Ravi Varma ” Rang Rasiya” is banned in India because our censor baord treat us like little kids and the guys there in Censor Board think that we can not afford “Nudity” in our movies and it might spoil us as a nation.
Well, I have not heard the song till now, not have seen the LSD so I can not say anything with authenticity but I know one thing for sure that Dibakar Banerji is not a directot who will use some cheap gimmick for publicity of his movies. We have seen his ” Khosla ka Ghosala” and “Oye Lucky Lucky Oye” and we all know that these were kind of a trendsetters. The fact is that this new breed of directors ( Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bhardwaj, Dibakar Banerji etc ) never use cheap gimmicks in their movies, they stress more on subjects and contents of movie.

Aishwarya in Dhoom, A Yashraj movie
Their heroines are not some mini skirt clad girl who deliberately shows her body parts in whole movie while maintains her innocece till the last scene of movie.

Kareena in Tashan ( A Yashraj movie)& priyanka in Dostana ( A Karan Johar movie)
Anything…
Ladies might feel offended if they hear it at public places with their children but we can not expect a song to become a mational anthem sung and heared by all. It could be classified, to a particular theme, age group and movie.
When talk about the nudity, who can deny that they do not love to see a beautiful woman. Any form of art puts beauty on first priority. When I saw the teaser of ” Rang Rasia”, I was thrilled. How beautiful are the locations, colors and the lead actress.
Its a pity that this movie is banned in India.
Actully, its a real joke! Few clicks can lead a person to a pornish website but creation of a director as great as Ketan Mehta on a legend as great as Raja Ravi Varma can not be seen in our own country. Why? Because, our uncles and aunty ji in censor board don’t think if it is right thing for us to see a movie like ” Rang Rasiya”.

Raja Ravi Varma
You can see the promo of Rang Rasiya on the video below…

Nice! I love Radiohead. I love Ak, Vb, Db, these awesome directors. N you’re right about them. Regarding LSD, i have known about it from following certain tweets (of critics) that LSD chooses to illuminate, n not titillate its audience with cheap images, ‘n that Db gets serious with voyeurism in LSD. Yep, he’s no less than a genius. Sensible write-up mate..

Would just like to add that Censors can’t be blamed entirely, as they’re a non-autonomous body controlled by the government chosen by the people of India. So i guess it’s the people who are to be blamed..especially those who don’t vote.

Thanks for your comments, Nishant! You are right, its a high time when Censor board should seriously think about revising the guidelines.

Rahul, the title of your post corresponds to the movie’s title:
Love (Beauty); Sex (Nudity) aur (and) Dhokha (Censor) ..You’re Being Watched – a tagline CBFC could use
lol..interestingly accurate buddy! jokes apart, here’s a link you (n everyone else) might want to have a look at: http://www.sacw.net/article748.html

WOW, how perfect! The bad part is that Dhokha comes at last. When a team of movie-makers is done by spending a lot of time, efforts, energy, creativity and money, Censor Board comes from nowhere and take a decision on behalf of people of India. Do they really know what we want?
Its shame that Paanch and Rang Rasiya still can not be seen.
Nishant, the post you sent seems very interesting, have just gone through some lines
Will go through it and let you know.

Its a best piece of writing. Fahrenheit 911 is the best example. Bush could not prevent screenings, even under the Patriot Act and a here a bunch of fools takes a decision behalf of millions of Indians. They should even send their representatives at our home to keep a watch on our acts

Do you think songs and movies can be classified in the same category??
I think, for movies, there is no public screening and one can skip the movie if he/she doesn’t like to watch it. I agree with you Censor Board should be relexed there. Period…..
But songs are different ball game… one can not control public play of songs, specially in India where songs are played on loudspeakers for any public event, in Pan wali shops, barber shop etc. One ought to listen to the songs, wheather likes it or not….
Eve teasing, specially in smaller cities, is very big problem… Just imagine eve teaser getting pick up line like “Tu nangi achhi dikhti hai” and playing the song when any poor girl is passing by his shop. It’s disgusting for that girl…..
It would not be national antheme. Most of the girls will not be happy even to listen to this kind of song once.

Hello Sumit,
I think your point is valid.
People even used ” Aati Kya Khandala” for eve teasing.

But, don’t you think we had enough ” baarish” songs where hero and heorine do almost everything on sceeen.
” Roop Tera Mastana” was first of its kind. AND “ Bhool koi hamse na ho jaaye” tells a lot about the intentions
” Choli ke peechhe kya hai” and ” Saat Saheliyaan ” were no lesser than an anthem.
And , these kind of movies were considered as family movies.
In fact, we already have a overdose of these kind of songs.
LSD already declares that its a dark movie about a dark subject and they are not making a joke of a subject as dangerous as Voyeurism.
